What do you like about Pensacola? the Beach! eff portofino. downtown is sorta nice. winter only lasts 2 weeks if it's a cold year.
What do you dislike about Pensacola? i agree with previous poster about "deadville usa." without the military base there would be no pensacola, thus it's a really really pro-war town. tons of confederate flags.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? the beach. eff portofino. national seashore and fort pickens are beautiful. downtown is welcoming more good bars and even a new brewery.
How expensive is it? cheaper than most.
Is it safe? i've always felt safe, but i try to stay out of the unsafe parts of town.
How is the weather? pretty good. in the summer we get daily thunderstorms which help the stifling heat a little, but the humidity is seriously serious. in the summer it'll be clear all day then thunderstorm in the afternoon, then be clear again by sunset. not bad. what winter? hurricanes.
Additional thoughts? i was excited to come back to pensacola until the oil spill. now i'm over it. overall it's a dirty south bible belt stronghold. there's more churches than people. it feels like alabama more than florida. we affectionately refer to it as "L.A." for lower-alabama.

What do you like about Pensacola?
Now much. It is a small city, easy to get around. Walmarts every direction, a couple malls. No state income tax. Weather- about 5 months of cool springlike weather before it quickly surpasses comfort zone in late May.
What do you dislike about Pensacola?
Plenty. This whole area is 75% republican, and if you don't agree with them, then you are wrong. People with bibles stand on street corners yelling at you. They line up at abortion clinics and harass people. This area is known for shooting, bombing, etc. for their prolife beliefs. They feel God allows them to use this nutty violence They feel the use of military is the solution to world peace. Just drop a bomb on a city, regardless of innocent people living there, and walk away as if they accomplished something great. Crasy people live here. It's a military town, Navy & airforce. Since they served for me, they are always right. Less taxation means a bigger boat, another plasma tv, and a Hummer to sit next to their BMW & Lexus. Just don't drive them through the poverty section, and keep your nose up high.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
The beach is the life. Whitest sand in America, clear water, tanned bodies, skimpy bikinis. Great restuarants, a few music festivals- Springfest, Gospel, and summer blues & rock outings. Downtown has the clubs, and youth music is underground/alternitive bands. The east half of Pensacola have bluffs overlooking the bay, rolling pine tree neighborhoods. The west half is rundown, flat, dirty, old rusty cars with dents and missing pieces or taped on.
How expensive is it?
Was cheap until hurricanes drove up housing expense. Pay is lower than most places.
Is it safe?
Not really. Inner city has high crime, gangs, drug use.
How is the weather?
Forecast- Sunny & hard to breathe. Summer humidity makes 80-85 seem like 100 or more, sweat like a pig, gasp for air. Yet people jog. They leave a trail of water behind them!Winters are brief and mild at 32-55, then rising by march. You can wear shorts 8 months of the year. Many sunny days, but twice the rain of Seattle. It comes in downpours!
There has to be a better place than here. This is NOT a liberal town. There are some cool people though, but they must be hiding under a rock somewhere. George W rules down here, tax cuts for the rich, cuts in social spending, envading countries to kick ass. And the music culture- Pensacola is just little bit away from the New Orleans cool music vibe, so radio gets dominated by a Jimmy Buffet & southern redneck, classic rock, top 20, or heavy metal/alternative screaming vibe. No blues, folk, jazz, R&B. Basically, deadville usa.
