What do you like about Charlotte? It is very clean compared with most cities its size. There are lots of trees. Charlotte is very nice to look at compared with most cities.
What do you dislike about Charlotte? If you are married with no children and are in your 20s, or you are a teenager, there is basically nothing of interest for you to do here. Everything that might interest you closes by 10pm, unless it's Sunday, when it closes at 6pm. If you are single in your 20s or are married with children you will enjoy Charlotte, as everything is catered to you. You have either bars to go to or tons of family events for children. Also, artists frequently skip Charlotte on their national tours - being the 2nd largest city in the southeast you think we would get a lot better concerts coming through, but it's mostly top 40 stuff and country.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Uptown Charlotte can be okay if there is something going on, NoDa is kind of the pretentious artsy area. If you have children there is always something going on in South Charlotte or Ballantyne to entertain you.
How expensive is it? Not very. A one bedroom apartment in Ballantyne or Uptown will cost you about $1100-1300 a month, and in a less expensive area it will be about $900-$1000. Gas, food, costs of living are usually slightly below national average.
Is it safe? Depends on where you are. But violent crime is pretty low here, its mostly theft, burglary, etc. more than anything.
How is the weather? 9 months of miserable, hot, humid summer. 2 weeks of pleasant spring. 2 weeks of pleasant fall. 2 months of cold miserable rainy winter. Summer averages upper 80s with 70-80% humidity and no breeze whatsoever. Winter averages upper 30s to low 40s. There is a period of about 2 weeks twice a year in between these two sets of temperatures (you think I'm exaggerating... I'm not)
Additional thoughts? Charlotte's cultural and entertainment options are so limited for someone who has a diverse range of tastes. The options definitely cater to s very specific crowd. If you fit that demographic (late 20s-40s, married, with children, the words "pottery painting" as a recreational activity sound exciting to you) then you will love it here

What do you like about Charlotte? Lovely weather, a growing city, beautifully developing skyline downtown.

What do you dislike about Charlotte? The people for one. For the most part, they're pretty conservative, materialistic, and religious. There also seems to be a lack of entertainment, the CMS school system is absolutely pathetic, and the streets. Quite a bit of traffic during rush hour. Oh, and the infestation of illegal immigrants. They're awful here.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? The Plaza-Midwood area is quite lovely! Very artistic and historical. Tremont Music Hall, all Single Cell Productions, the downtown area in general. Etc. etc.

How expensive is it? Moderate. It really depends on where in Charlotte. Some of the housing/retail goes wayyy up or pretty low.
Is it safe? Meh. I wouldn't recommend walking the streets alone here, i'll say that.

How is the weather? The summers can be just a little TOO hot at times and oh-so-humid, Spring and Fall are absolutely gorgeous and winter not too bad either. There's an occassional dusting of snow but nothing over a foot.

Additional thoughts?
Charlotte has it's ups and downs, just like any other city. . .but it does have plenty of room for improvement.
