The city is low key, neat, safe and has just enough to stores to get what you need.
What I don't like about Idaho Falls it the lack of entertainment (i.e., live music, theatre, etc.). The strong mormon presence has a very tight hold on what is allowed in the city. Non-mormons can expect to be slightly excluded from community events and job opportunities/advancements. Also, though you can get virtually everything you need, the shopping is quite limited and when it comes to large purchases (cars, homes, etc.) a non-mormon will recieve "no favors".
Our favorite places to hang out are the Falls (Idaho Falls' namesake), the Eagles (nice member atmosphere), The Cellar (great for a glass of wine and fine food with a mello atmosphere), Vino Rosso (another great wine/beer bar with every kind of wine and import beer you can name).
We live in Ammon (East side of I.F.) which is the newer, most quickly expanding side of I.F. and it is very nice. Crime is virtually non-exisistant compared to some of the places in the older part of town (beware). People are nice (if you get in good with the mormons). And the streets are mostly new and less of potholes.
I.F. is relatively inexpensive as far as housing and entertainment (what there is). Expect to pay $750-900/mnth for a nice townhouse (lease). $500-800/mnth for a nice apartment. I undestand real estate is relatively inexpensive as well.
The weather is okay. Cold snowy winters, Variable summers (lots of cloudy rainy days mixed with sunny hot days).
