What do you like about Honolulu?
Lots of places to eat and shop, or just hang out with friends. I suppose the beaches are close enough, if you like that kind of thing... The people are generally nice, although you do get those one or two that aren't... For anime fans like me, there are a lot of places to get your fixes. OK Anime, ToysnJoys, Collector Maniacs, Shirokiya, Mecha Hawaii (to name a few).
What do you dislike about Honolulu?
THE HEAT. Traffic is bad--we only have a few highways in the state, and almost everyone around here commutes on the H1. ... and everytime someone puts up a new white wall, you're sure to get it marked up within two weeks or so...
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
Kahala Mall and Ala Moana are probably the major shopping areas around here. Kaimuki Town is a fun place to poke around, for people like me who live close by.
How expensive is it?
About as expensive as any major city gets, I imagine, so far as goods go. Generally, if you're talking about housing costs, we've got everybody else beat. It's VERY EXPENSIVE to reside here comfortably, and the cost of living just keeps getting higher.
Is it safe?
Generally; depends where you go. (Though just a while ago we had this ice addict hurl a baby off the highway bridge...)
How is the weather?
Hot. Really, really hot. We've had a lot of vog the past few days, too, and it's hella ugly. It gets super sticky humid during the summer and fall. Generally temperate, I guess, compared to other parts of the world...
*shrug* You know, everybody thinks this place is some sort of paradise on earth, but if you live here long enough, it really isn't. There's an ugly side. But there are reasons why people like to come here, too. Still, I can't wait to get out of here.
