What do you like about Palm Springs?
The scenery can be attractive. The mountains turn purple at sunset. The architecture is generally very attractive and the color of bldgs is pastels and light and airy looking.
What do you dislike about Palm Springs?
The people are cranky, cheap and hostile. I never lived in a place that had nastier people than that desert area. Most of them were snow birds from the East, especially Chicago.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
It's not a hang-around-in area. Indian Wells or downtown Palm Springs could be interesting, especially on balmy Spring evenings after the sun set.
How expensive is it?
It's a lot cheaper than most of the rest of California.
Is it safe?
It's ok. There are a lot of meth users and other dope related criminals.
How is the weather?
It's unbearably hot. The first couple of summers you can endure it, but after that each summer becomes more unendurable than the one before it.
Nights might cool off in October. Nights might stay cool until May.
Hot weather starts in late January and really accellerates in April. By late June every day will be over 100 degrees and it'll stay that hot or hotter until October.
Nights from July through mid September will be in the 80s. 83 degrees will commonly be as cool as it gets for about 3 or 4 months.
I lived there from Jan 1988 until Jan 1998.
In the summer of 1995 there were 15 days where the temperature was 120 or more! The hottest day that year was 126!
I remember on an afternoon in late April when the temperature reached 119.
It's excruciatingly hot there in the summer!
