What I like about Phoenix? It's always sunny, and you don't feel depressed in fall when it gets gloomy in other places. Winter is the best time of the year. As for the summer heat, it's better to tolerate heat than snow and frost in other places.
What I dislike? Lack of high-rise buildings; it looks like a huge village, and in some places- a very ugly architecture, even in brand new buildings.Lack of public transportation. We desperately need a Subway here; it would be cool under the ground in hot weather.Lack of shady parks.
Desert Ridge and Biltmore Fashion Square are the best places to hang out.

What do you like about Phoenix? Easy to navigate, close to fun travel destinations, and gorgeous sunsets/sunrises.
What do you dislike about Phoenix? Too many things that tell me, I won't stay. I don't like to complain cuz then you hear the "well then leave" so with that said, I am going to leave for the following reasons: not pedestrian friendly city, too many chain restaurants and coffee shops, the coffee shops are way too bright and modern and are only open until 3 PM, it is way too dry, everyone is from somewhere else, so the city lacks character, few know their neighbors (big wall around everything), the seasons are non-existant (you forget what time of year it is, for better or worse), It is one hour drive to see a friend in the other side of the valley, riduculously hot summer, not enought lovely rain (it is the desert after all) and it is a white-knuckle drive everywhere. I could go on, but I won't.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? I like the Arcadia area of Phoenix, cute wine bars, more neighborhoody feel and greener. I also like the DC ranch area of Scottsdale, it is pretty desert up there and the mall area is more unique. Great shops.
How expensive is it? Varies widely on where you live in the valley. Overall, still a great buy to live here.
Is it safe? The area is pocketed with good and bad.
How is the weather? Depends on what you like. It is very bright (bothers my eyes), very dry (bothers my eyes) and very hot in the summer. In fact, the sun is hot year round, so it can be a nice day, but if the sun is on you, it can be uncomforable anytime.
Additional thoughts? Be careful about simple moving away because you are sick of inclement weather, weather isn't everything. This is a great place to vacation and I would love to return to that feeling again. But, I would rather have the crummy weather of an eclectic, fun, pedestrain friendly city than this. Don't forget to look at everything, not just one thing.
