What do you like about Bangkok?
The districts are separated by trade, so it is easy to find what you need. Tourist police, to help foreigners in English. Good Hospitals. Friendly people. Great food. Inexpensive. The BTS (skytrain) and the malls. Lots of things to do.
What do you dislike about Bangkok?
The pollution. Traffic jams. A lot of malls close relatively early in the evening.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
Buengkum district and along Phetkasem Road are good places to live. I loved Fashion Island mall and Siam Paragon Mall and Safari World. There are also lots of things to do outside the city in surrounding towns during the weekends. It is easy to take a bus or train.
How expensive is it?
It is more expensive nearer to the city center. Rent will be the biggest cost. Food is cheap. Entertainment is cheap, unless you are a heavy drinker.
Is it safe?
It is very safe. Like any city, don't travel alone at night in unlit areas. There are some pickpockets in tourist areas but I have heard rumours they aren't necessarily Thais. If you lose your ID it is always turned in, call the tourist police.
How is the weather?
Hot and humid. Especially hot in downtown areas because the UV is magnified by the pollution. Moonsoon season starts in late May and can go until October.
Additional thoughts?
Meet people. Learn the language. Eat where the locals eat. Don't be afraid of street vendors!
