Historic Lynchburg is relatively low cost city that is reasonably well-maintained. It can be a good town for retirees because it has public transportation available to cultural events in DC or even NY and several other towns. It has beautiful Spring and Fall weather. Winter is generally mild but summers are intolerable. Lynchburg residents are generally less educated and less aware of the world than residents of so many other cities and they have little interest in learning of anything outside their confined universe.

Sadly it is slowly being taken over by Religious Zealots who only care about their own agenda. Many of the religious extremists are self-centered, quite hateful and they openly show their contempt of others who do not believe as they do.

Unless you are inclined to join the predominate religious group in Lynchbur I would not recommend it as a long term residence.
