What do you like about Fayetteville? The suburbs are nice. The established neighborhoods that aren't ghetto or cheap housing are good places to live in. As far as people go there are a few decent ones who keep to themselves you'll have to explore the city to find them.
What do you dislike about Fayetteville? The demographics suck. Fayetteville is about 48 percent white and 44 percent black. There is animosity between the races not so much because of color but because of socioeconomic disparity. On one side you got the military which all live similar lifestyles and on the other side are the civilians, most who aren't well educated and tend to work industrial or service jobs, at the bottom of the food chain. The average is about 30 something. Also there are too many men due to the military so if you aren't hooked up by the end of high school you better leave town or join the army. All the females tend to seek out military men not for love but for financial improvement. The towns temperment is hostile. Too many guys harassing the females so the females tend to be anti social and reactive. The women, ugly or beautiful, automatically assume you want them. As far as education goes avoid FTCC. The local community college houses alot of lowlifes. Its cheap education so you get what you pay for. The college is crowded and is a shake and bake operation. It is mass education with little regard to quality of learning. Fayetteville State university located is in a bad part of town. Areas to avoid are Bragg blvd, Murchison Road, and Bunce Road. Unless you like strip malls and strip joints there is not too much entertainment in Fayetteville.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Lake Rim park is nice to visit and good for outings with family. There are decent places near the Methodist College area. The neighborhoods going towards downtown are nice. You can walk around on sidewalks and enjoy the weather.
How expensive is it? Housing varies. There are some locations that are overrated. Because most landlords set thier rental prices based on military BAH you won't get away with too many steals. Gasoline prices are mediocre. If you're military and get gas on post be ready for long lines.
Is it safe? Depends who you are and where you live. Trouble usually comes looking for you in Fayetteville. Most people stick to thier own types that is whites with whites blacks with blacks etc. This town/city is really not good for young people in their twenties.
How is the weather? The weather is kinda crappy mostly hot and humid. Sometimes hurricanes dump lots of rain in the area. Pollen can really mess you up in the spring time if you have allergies.
Additional thoughts? Fayetteville has a population of about 300,000 plus. There is bad traffic during certain hours most of it headed towards Fort Bragg. Job outlook isnt too good either. Unless you want to work for military contractors there arent too many high paying jobs. Try the big cities near central NC. Also look out for hillbillies there are many around the city and beyond who are ill willed opportunist just waiting to take advantage of decent people.

What do you like about Fayetteville?
I met a lot of great people in Fayetteville. It is a small town with a sort of mid city atomosphere and lots of restaurants to choose from. Downtown area is also undergoing some major improvements and bringing a more cultural diversity to this place. Central location in NC make it only 45 min drive to Raleigh, and an hour and 45 min drive to the beach.

What do you dislike about Fayetteville?
I could write a book here, but the main thing is that this is mainly a military town (Ft Bragg) and there are hardly any venues for civilian life. Businesses here mostly revolve around the military. Unless you served in the armed forces or are serving now, you will probably not get a lot of respect in this town. It is a difficult place to move up in life. I spent a lot of time here but was fortunate to have a career that brought me up in this place. Also because this is a military town it is very difficult being a single guy here. The population consist something of like 70% men, which is good for the women in this town, but sucks for guys. The only single women are the ones who are divorced, have kids and are divorced, or are lying and their husbands are probably in Iraq.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
Haymount.. downtown area. The new park near Methodist College.

How expensive is it?
eh.. It's affordable, but because of the military the cost of living here is jacked up higher than it should be.

Is it safe?
In most areas yes. But because of the level of testosterone in this town, there is a lot of aggresion here.

How is the weather?
it's unpredictable. Typical of NC. Could rain one day, be sunny the next, and snow the next.

Additional thoughts?
Fayetteville has changed a lot over the years. I am glad it isn't a town like Jacksonville, NC which is probably 100 times worse in being a marine town. But opportunity in Fayetteville is hard to come by. You really have to search for it and you have to be aggressive about what you want.. Best advice ever: Move out of this city as soon as you can, or you will get trapped there. I have seen it happen to so many people there. Go to Wilmington, Raleigh or Charlotte instead. Enjoy life.
