What do you like about Rochester? Great environment. Farely quiet and peaceful. You can have both a large city and small town view. A little bit of both worlds.
What do you dislike about Rochester? Absolutely nothing to do besides the basics (catch a movie, go bowling, open skating)
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? The Rochester Athletic Club is a great family place. Great pool and workout services and "The Neighborhood" addition. Something to do for everyone.
How expensive is it? I would say you can find homes in just about any price range but with all the doctors and engineers, most houses are higher-ended.
Is it safe? Very safe
How is the weather? Winters are cold and snowless. Normally get snow late when you finally want spring to come it seems. Summers are beautiful tho and very enjoyable. You'll get that Minnesota humidity but nothing you can't live with.
Additional thoughts? Great college prep schooling (lourdes in particular). Rochester in general provides a great education.

What do you like about Rochester? good wages/low cost of living, stable economy, short commute time (can be anywhere by car in 15 minutes), low crime.

What do you dislike about Rochester? a singles wasteland. city is ultra-boring. You end up overextending yourself to have even a minimal social life. People are generally very private. ~1/4 the town works at Mayo or IBM, which means medical types are obsessed with their free time due to call schedules and the computer types are surfing the web. Bars are few and far between, no central cluster of shops and stores besides the mall. Very few college age people. The most beautiful central park, Silver lake, is overrun with geese and their waste.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
northwest part of town is the newest, however=total urban sprawl.
very few places open after 10 pm.
civic art museum is a great space but don't expect to see artsy types there. essex park has great trails.

How expensive is it? inexpensive.

Is it safe? yes. Police are ridiculously suspicious.

How is the weather? many beautiful days, many crappy ones. winter wind can be brutal.

Additional thoughts?
perfect place to raise the 2 kids and the black lab with the white picket fence. if you want to live an episode of Grey's Anatomy without the drama, you'll fit right in.
