What do you like about Kalamazoo?

Strong Counter Culture. People don't try to look and act like the people they see on reality TV & MTV (Which is a problem in many other college towns). Very eclectic in living styles. Still a decent number of locally owned businesses.

What do you dislike about Kalamazoo?

Entertainment industry jobs not really an option there. Big biz moving in fast & hurting local stores.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?

Kalamazoo's Cafe scene is very strong - Disproportionately strong for the size of the town actually.

How expensive is it?

Not very. There are a huge number of college students in Kalamazoo - WMU, K-College, KVCC, etc are all located there - so costs are low if you're willing to live in student dominated areas.

Is it safe?

Mostly.

How is the weather?

Prepare to do some digging in winter.

Additional thoughts?

I cant exactly put my finger on it, but there is something unique about Kalamazoo. Just really pleasant feeling. There are tons of towns that feel like clones from one another... this isn't one of them.

If you are visiting you'll be fine if you are staying It is hard to find gainful employment. The education system is a joke unless you have nothing special about you that they can stamp out teachers at the universities range from closed minded and unhelpful to bland, and if you are suffering any mental illness issues STAY AWAY I repeat if you have kids that have any mental health issues or you have mental health issues GO ANWHERE ELSE.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
The parks are okay otherwise just stay home.

I spend 1,200 a month and don't exactly have my needs met I survive but barely.
