What do you like about Rome? The area is very pretty -- mountains, rivers and the like. General cost of living is very low but as is the rate of pay (on average). People are very warm and friendly for the most part but if you're from say the NYC area or similar where people mind their own business, peoples' inquisitive and not so bright nature might really peave you. Doesn't really bother me.
What do you dislike about Rome? The weather. (see below) While the people are generally nice they are also typically dull and unintelligent. Southern accents tend not to help the case as they contribute to the seeming lack of intellect - very lax.
If you don't like to stay at home, this isn't the place for you. Surprisingly, while Rome harbors SEVERAL high schools and 3 colleges (Shorter, Berry and the local community college) there is very little to do in terms of social highlights. About the most interesting things you will find are tons of restaurants and 2-3 really crappy bars typically full of rednecks and kids. Very non-diverse.
This is an extremely right-house region. Very conservative and closed-minded. (Yay republican? heh)People are friendly until you're pro-choice or have no issues with gay couples, etc.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Berry college campus is absolutely beautiful. The historic district down-town is very nice if you like old houses and broad street is really cute although under utilized in my opinion.
How expensive is it? Very low but not particularly low quality - it's the best thing about living here.
Is it safe? Extremely.
How is the weather? Shitty. Summers are humid and hot as hell while winters can be particularly cold without the snow.
To be honest, I don't LOVE living here. I like to keep to myself so things to do doesn't really bother me too much and the land is beautiful (when I actually see it ;p) but the only real reason I stick around is because of how incredibly affordable it is on a low budget.
