What do you like about Yuma? The fishing is excellent.
What do you dislike about Yuma? The out of control gang activity and domestic violence. I have been shot at and have seen many serious situations sparked by the gang problem here. I also don't like the fact that the hispanic population treats white people with such open racial prejudice. The last time I heard God created all man equal. But here in Yuma it isn't at all that way. White people are the minority and that alone should leave the hispaic population feeling superior in their 55% presence according to the 2000 census estimates that don't include the illegal aliens. And 65% of the business operations are owned by the hispanic population so I don't understand the racial tension. I also don't like to be addressed in spanish as though I speak it because I live here. In many circunstances I can't find someone that speaks english in a city that is in fact in the USA. My wife complains that she has a great amount of difficulty understanding her employer because of the language barrier in the work place which is a chain pizza restaurant. She is only 1 of 2 employee's that can speak english in the work place and often feels very alienated by this as well as unable to comunicate effectivly with her peers.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? The fishing holes when they aren't completely over come with the gangs getting drunk and fighting and the gun play that most always sparks up after the drugs and alcohol gets things out of control. The last time I went to one of my favorite fishing holes 2 gang members were beating another in what I was informed was a drug deal gone bad. so I'm now very skeptical about going fishing any more because those places have been taken over by the gangs and drug dealers.
How expensive is it? pretty expensive for what you get. I rent and my house doesn't have heat or A/C and it is $600.00 per month for a 2 bedroom.
Is it safe? Absolutly not. Crime is extremely high for such a small city. I have a son that is in the law enforcement comunity and he informs me of a lot that the public is not ever made aware of regarding violent activity. A man was shot to death while being car jacked even though he obeyed the car jacker and gave the keys to his automobile to him without any argument. Two gang member's were shot by rival gang members on my street 2 houses away from mine.
How is the weather? Too hot for too long. It wouldn't be so bad if the cooler time of the year lasted longer.
Additional thoughts? I want to move as soon as finances will allow. I've never lived in a city this size where violence is the daily thing and so blatant and brazen. I also would like to live where the anglish language is actually the spoken language most of the time. I feel like I live in Mexico and I mean that in all honesty to every extent including the culture that is being displayed in a manner that we must submit and deal with the language barrier rather than the non english speaking persons learning to cope with the language requirements of the United States of America!!

What do you like about Yuma? People are friendly, lots of activities in the winter. The creative playground built by 8000 volunteers is awesome.
What do you dislike about Yuma? The heat in the summer.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Downtown is getting a new streetscape....the festivals are fun. Lots of golf courses.
How expensive is it? Cheaper than California and the Northwest, more expensive than the south.
Is it safe? As safe as anywhere. I feel safe walking in my neighborhood at night.
How is the weather? Perfect weather 9 months of the year. Would rather not talk about the other 3 months of the year.
Additional thoughts? For a small community it has a very active arts community.
