When people think of Alabama, they generally think of farmland and rednecks. Though much of Alabama IS farmland, the city of Birmingham is, well, not. I haven't found Alabama to be hospitable at all, and as far as intellectualism? The redneck stereotype is actually pretty accurate. Originally a Midwesterner, I was shocked to see hundreds of Confederate flag bumper stickers; the epitome of racism. Most residents are close-minded, but I have met several people who are pretty awesome. Still, it's not worth moving here to look for them. Try someplace else.

When most people think Alabama, they think unintellectual hicks who live on farms and feed cows. Ironically, there are no farms in the region in which I live. ;P I like Alabama because it's fantastically beautiful. There is so much greenery and flowers and we even have a beach! The people are among the most hospitipal and the most outgoing people I've ever met. And of course, some of the tannest! What I don't like about Alabama is the summertime weather. I'm a winter baby and I absolutely hate to sweat.
