Corpus Christi has utility rates twice that of anywhere in the world! In the summer between the Corpus Christi City utilities and the electricity bills you could buy a second home anywhere else. Just think, for the price of utilities you could buy ANOTHER HOME somewhere else!

Lots of corruption here and in Texas. Check out one of the energy companies TXU and insider trading. Who pays for this public fraud and corruption? You do if you live in places like this with your utilities.

Retired or looking to move to the sub belt? My advice is STAY CLEAR of Corpus Christi an Texas. You could pay for another home with the price of electricity alone!

What do you like about Corpus Christi? Access to water... beach, lake, river.
What do you dislike about Corpus Christi? Businesses close too early, it's too conservative for young people, little town trying to be a big city.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Back in the day... there were bowling alleys, arcades, cooler malls, and many other areas for people to hang out. Many of those have since closed their doors.
How expensive is it? Moderate. The cost of living is a lot lower than MANY cities I have lived in before, but the minimum wage is still $5.15 and unless you have a college degree or know someone that owns their own business it's hard to get your foot in the door of someplace that pays higher than $7.00.
Is it safe? Growing up in the 80's it was fairly safe. I still think it's pretty safe, though the crime rate has seemed to grow quite a bit. There have been some crazy things happening there, but I honestly think that a lot of the crime has to do with the drug using population and the heat... heat makes people crazy.
How is the weather? I miss the weather more than anything. It gets pretty warm in the summertime, but the thunderstorms can't be beat. Winters are cool sometimes freezing. Christmastime 2004 it actually snowed for the first time in about 100 years.
Additional thoughts? Though I have said before that I would never move back to Corpus, I know that I will eventually. The people are friendly for the most part and I don't know any other place in the world quite like it.
