What do you like about Minneapolis? It's safe, cultural, has a ton of cool neighborhoods, the focus is rightfully on community versus easy driving-- single lanes and green space versus multi-lane concrete and asphalt hell. Old style and midwest, yet fairly progressive. Liberal old school and tolerant. Your average person is at least polite, if not friendly once you get to know him / her, and probably well educated. It's not a police state. It's fun to be single here (not a boring family city, that is, but you could feel good about raising a family here at the same time). There are a lot of good things to do for free (films, concerts, free museum days, a surplus of good free papers). Big variety in the music scene. People get out and do things here, especially downtown on weekends. I like the University of Minnesota. The Mississippi River is beautiful and is fairly well developed. Minneapolis is an oasis for the senses and the soul.

What do you dislike about Minneapolis? Real estate prices are high for a city its size. The 'Minnesota Nice' attitude is sometimes annoying and sometimes charming. People tend to be unusually quiet here, with exceptions. Somewhat slow on developing cool and useful things, such as the light rail system and proposed expansions.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? downtown, Uptown, Dinkytown, West Bank, Northeast, Powderhorn, Seward... it's a really cool city!

How expensive is it? Fairly expensive, but not ridiculous like San Francisco.

Is it safe? I think it's very safe compared to other cities.

How is the weather? Cold, long winters and hot, humid summers are balanced with a few impeccable perfect spring and fall days. Those few days make it worth living here.

Additional thoughts? Don't forget about going to Saint Paul!
