What do you like about Detroit? There are lots of things to do and it's driving distance from Chicago and lots of major colleges in detroit and around the state, so there are always fun things to do. Christmas in Detroit is magical with the snow and all the christmas lights. Fall is beautiful and the bugs aren't bad year round. The Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) is an awesome art museum. Awesome music scene, all good bands tour through detroit, and detroit music fans are very cool. The Detroit Zoo is awesome too! Detroit has the best food ever.

What do you dislike about Detroit? How areas are either rich or poor, and there isn't much in the middle. I wish there was a better art scene as well. I'm not sure about the other schools in the area, but the highschool I went to has gone down hill the last few years. I'm not sure if it's just a phase or what...

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Downtown. There are lots and lots of great resturants in Ann Arbor, my favorite resturant is Gratzi.

How expensive is it? Depends on where you want to live, Ann Arbor is really expensive. The apartments downtown in nice areas are really inexpensive, especially the ones around Wayne State, for a 1 bdrm it's about $550 a month. There are great places to live in Livonia, Redford, and Westland for really resonable prices and they're safe areas, close to everything.

Is it safe? Detroit is NOT as bad as everyone makes it out to be! They have put a lot of effort into cleaning up the city. There are lots of places to go downtown at night that are safe, you just have to not be stupid and wander off into some scary looking neighborhood. Downtown Detroit is like any other city, just use good judgement. Chances are, if you're out to eat or at a concert or something you're not going to be in a bad neighborhood.

How is the weather? Crazy! One day it's 50 the next it's 80. The other reviews were pretty accurate with the weather being all over the place. But it's nice to have all four seasons. My only gripe about the weather is that it is grey so often.

Additional thoughts? I love detroit. I wouldn't trade growing up there for the world. And the review that said the city isn't very intellectual is not true. There are lots of polical activists in the area because of all the colleges.

What do you like about Detroit?diverse, the seasons, great music, great food
What do you dislike about Detroit?too big and too segregated
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?Canton, Ann Arbor, Plymouth
How expensive is it? moderate
Is it safe?Midtown Detroit is very safe, I have never been anywhere safer than Detroit's suburbs
How is the weather?pretty miserable but the seasons break up the monotony
Additional thoughts?one of the most interesting places I have ever been. The center of human innovation and neglect coexist. Great Universities and cultural attractions mixed in with Industrial ruins. Awesome clubs and music and the best Arabic food in North America. There is always something to do here.
