What do you like about Indianapolis?

The Indianapolis Museum of Art, Clowes Memorial Hall, the Murat Theatre, the Chatterbox, the Jazz Kitchen, Radio Radio and the Arts Garden are just a few of the places that make Indianapolis a great city.

What do you dislike about Indianapolis?

I used to have a laundry list of things I disliked about Indianapolis, but as the city grows and matures I find that there are new and exciting things happening all the time. The one major complaint I have is the lack of solid public transportation. It is very hard to get around the city sans car unless you live near downtown.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?

The east side of the city has a lot to offer in the way of living. Housing is reasonably priced, most neighborhoods have easy access to the highway, and if you choose to live in Warren Township, the school system is stellar.

How expensive is it?

The cost of living in Indianapolis is very low compared to most other areas of the country, but as with any other major city it all depends upon what neighborhood you live in. The far north side and downtown are by far the most expensive, while the southeast side offers the best value.

Is it safe?

The crime rate in most areas is very low, but Indianapolis is a fairly large city with its own share of crazies, so it always pays to be a little cautious.

How is the weather?

The weather is mostly mild, in the summer the temperature rarely exceeds 80 degrees and in the winter it is unusual to see anything below 25. The best time of year is the early fall when the weather is cool and the trees are beautiful.

Additional thoughts?

I've grown to like this city quite a bit in the past few years and I don't quite understand the post Kitty made about the prominence of Klan members as they haven't been active in this city for over 30 years. In fact, I don't think I've ever met a single clan member in the 18 years I've been a resident.

What do you like about Indianapolis?

The vibrant nightlife, plethora of musuems, monuments, and cultural attractions. There is always something to do! It's also very reasonably priced here. I live in a lovely one bedroom apartment for a little under 500 a month in a nice, safe area.

What do you dislike about Indianapolis?

The city is very large in terms of square mileage, so it can take some effort to get to other parts of the city, particularly due to the lack of public transportation. Also, much of the inner-city directly surrounding downtown has deteriated in the last few years a LOT, creating much more crime in those areas then there used to be.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?

I love the westside, as it's where I grew up, and I love the southside, as it's where I currently live. I love downtown and the near-northside as well. It's been reborn with wonderful refurbished and new homes, along with a lot of great places to meet up with people.

How expensive is it?

It's very cheap to live and have fun here. Big city style on small town prices. :)

Is it safe?

Just like anywhere, it depends on where go. I'd stay away from the inner-city unless I'm passing through...and the eastside is pretty scary too. Otherwise, I feel safe.

How is the weather?

Typical midwest. The spring and fall are the best. Dry, comfortable temperatures. The summers aren't too bad, perhaps a little bit too humid. Winter, however, sucks. It doesn't get too crazy cold, but between December and March, it's pretty much gray skies all the time.

Additional thoughts?

Most people I know that come here from other state and cities like it. Indianapolis doesn't really have one specific identity...but instead has something for everyone to identify with.
