What do you like about Chicago? The endless array of things to do - great culture, a whole array of sports (and one of the best baseball fields in the country in Wrigley Field), terrific food, beautiful music, great art, astonishing museums, weeks of festivals, free fireworks, a beautiful lakefront with a terrific bike trail, easy access and walkable streets, and amazing architecture. You can't possibly be bored here.

What do you dislike about Chicago? It's very crowded, particularly in summer. It's noisy - you don't realize it until you go outside the city, but it's always honking horns and voices and sirens, especially downtown. The winter is devastatingly cold and lengthy. And the plains around Chicago are *flat* - the city itself is gorgeous, but the surrounding area is very dull. There isn't much to do outside the city.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Downtown, Michigan Avenue, the lakefront, and neighborhoods like Lakeview and Bucktown.

How expensive is it? It's expensive, but as big cities go, it's not so bad. New York, Boston, and San Francisco are far more expensive for much the same culture.

Is it safe? Chicago's an odd city in that downtown and the north side are quite safe, and the far west and far south sides - where, admittedly, the tourists are unlikely to go - have sections that may as well be killing fields. The spread between the rich and poor is particularly felt in Chicago.

How is the weather? Not Chicago's best feature. The winters are brutally cold and the summers are stiflingly hot, but spring and fall are just beautiful.

Additional thoughts? I really think Chicago is the most livable big city in the United States. It's remarkably friendly for its size, very walkable, and despite the weather attracts millions of people. It's hard to beat that.
