What do you like about Chicago?- It has its own attitude. The transportation can get you anywhere and the music scene is awesome too.
What do you dislike about Chicago?- Some of the bums scare the crap out of me, it also is still really segregated.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?- I love Lakeview, especially Belmont and Clark. Lincoln Park is a great place too. I was never really a big fan of the loop but it has some things, especially Millenium Park.
How expensive is it?- It's pretty pricey.
Is it safe?- Unless you grew up there stay away from the West and the South. It also has the highest homocide rate.
How is the weather?- Winter is Hell, Spring and summer not so bad.
Additional thoughts?- It's a great place if you're real into bar hopping, other than that finding something to do can get difficult, especially if you're under 21.

What do you like about Chicago?
Food, youth culture, can-do attitude, small neighborhood vibe in city big enought to feel like a city. The grid system of the streets, the alleyway system behind the buildings, Myopic books, Association House of Chicago, the kindness of strangers, Margie's Candies, the social work, the craft scene, Sultan's Market, the Diversy Rock and Bowl, Target, Marshalls, living in a big city where you can easily and happily be a pedestrian, driver or cyclist. NPR!

What do you dislike about Chicago?
The socio-economic divide, the lack of funding for those in need, the gentrification, the horrible crispy-crust pizza, the lack of a more contemporary and established art scene, the lack of interesting and discerning art galleries. Oh, and the lack being so polluted that there were weeks of the summer were it was too dangerous to swim.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
Logan Square, Wicker Park, North Chicago, Damen St... these are the bits I knew well, but I think Chicago has so many interesting neighborhoods, all with something to offer

How expensive is it?
Can be really expensive but can also be really reasonable. Much better than NYC in this respect. One of the cheaper decent cities I've ever lived in.

Is it safe?
A lot of folks would tell you no, as there's so much gang activity. But I was there 2 years and was never the victim of crime. I did work with kids, immigrants and the illiterate however, and they did tell me a lot of stories about the crimes they'd experienced/witnessed- its certainly not perfect.

How is the weather?
You need to love extremes- Hot all heck in the summers and just as cold in the winter. The wind really does whip down those long straight streets. But the seasonal change is great, and spring is so fantastically welcome.

Additional thoughts?
Chicago has a special vibe, its like no other.
