What do you like about St. Petersburg? The art/activist culture, the concerts, the beaches, the interesting people, sometimes the climate

What do you dislike about St. Petersburg? The poverty, the current construction, rising housing costs, sometimes the climate

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? Downtown: I go to school down there, the cafes and concert venues are nice.

How expensive is it? Costs are rising fast, especially downtown. Entertainment costs aren't bad: local concerts aren't too pricy, and Cafes like The Globe are inexpensive places to shoot the breeze, play board games, or listen to live music.

Is it safe? The during day is fine. Going out alone at night is very risky. The homeless people (there are many) are usually harmless, but I tend to keep my distance. Anyone used to urban living and it's perils should be fine.

How is the weather? I don't like to go outside during the middle of the day from about April - August. The weather is usually very pleasent at night. Storms - tropical, thunder, hurricanes - are pretty regular. As they have never done me or anyone I know any harm, I happen to like them.

Additional thoughts? Downtown is a haven for activists: Anarchists, Uhuru movement members, gays, anti-war activists, what have you. Take it or leave it.

What do you like about St. Petersburg? Well, the downtown area (but not south St. pete) is bustling with new, rather refined culture, and Starbucks. Lots of beautiful, millionaire old houses that are extemely picturesque. Lots of beautiful Spanish architecture, and St. Petersburg High School is absolutely charming compared to most high schools in appearance. Beautiful waterfront, sunsets. Great movie theatre at Baywalk! The mayor is pretty good. There are a lot of museums and a botanical garden. Downtown is extremely pristine and clean, but south st. pete is the exact opposite.

What do you dislike about St. Petersburg? The extremely terrible traffic, no one respects anyone at all. Also there is an abnormally large population of homeless people in winter because of the weather, I suppose. Huge amount of condos are being built. Constant construction really makes it ugly. 4th street is terrible to drive on if you are inexperienced.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? I'd say North/Northeast St. Pete because it is a bit farther away from the hustle and bustle of things, and very near to the water. If I were richer, I'd want to live on the waterfront, where the beautiful houses are.

How expensive is it? I'd say its pretty expensive here, especially rent!

Is it safe? South St. Pete is by reputation extremely unsafe. The kind of area where you automatically make sure your car doors are locked and windows up and only drive through if you accidentally took the wrong exit on I-275.

How is the weather? Absolutely horrible. Don't EVER come here unless you come in November - January. If you want to come to the beach, then come in April. The rest of the time it's really just to hot and sunny. Also, the summers are full of hurricanes, so boarded up windows really are an eyesore. It is perpetually muggy and humid, hot, and scarcely windy unless you live on the beach. It is extremely sunny, also, and often clear skies. If you do not own a pair of decent sunglasses, your eyes are dead.

Additional thoughts? I cannot wait to move out of this place. Though it is appealing to a refined culture, one must be rich to fully appreciate it. After a while, one really yearns for snow and for seasons.
