What do you like about Denver?
This review is for downtown Denver. Plentiful restaurants, fairly clean due to cleanup crews, which are very obviously necessary due to the large population of homeless, drunks, and druggies who leave a trail of debris in their wake.
What do you dislike about Denver?
The downtown area is full of panhandlers who are either drunk, on drugs, mentally ill, or all of the above. I was verbally accosted and physically threatened by screaming people on 3 separate occasions while walking both night and day. The Denver City Council and the Mayor should be ashamed of themselves for not cleaning up their streets. What should be a great downtown area is a cesspool.

How expensive is it?
Above average.
Is it safe?
Absolutely not safe, particularly if you are alone. Women are not safe walking alone day or night.

Additional thoughts?
As a business owner, this is not the place to bring clients. Completely unprofessional and unimpressive.

What do you like about Denver?
-Denver's attractive downtown, climate, economy, arts and culture, professional sports, and proximity to nearby mountains were the biggest draws for me. It's also a socially, politically, and environmentally progressive city having recently passed initiatives expanding light rail throughout the metropolitan area-- preportedly the largest transportation project in US history, and legalizing possesion of small amounts of marijuana for medical use. It's also a diverse place boasting one of the nation's largest per capita Latino and Jewish populations, one of it's most affluent African American populations, and a substantial number of Ethiopian and Russian immigrants. Overall, Denver is a great place in which to live and work.

What do you dislike about Denver?
Traffic congestion, one of the worst in the US. Housing prices, lower than those on both coasts, but high in relation to area median incomes.

What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
I work and (mostly) play downtown. The Denver Performing Arts Complex is where I go for theatre, symphony, ballet, and opera. Larimer Square, an entertainment and restaurant district in Historic Lower Downtown(LoDo),is one of the best places to eat, take in a comedy show, bar hop, or go to a jazz club. The Denver Pavilions, a downtown open-air mall, has a jazz club, bars, shops, and restaurants. The nearby towns of Boulder, Vail, and Winter Park(via the "Ski Train" during ski season) have summer music and film festivals, and a three and a half hour drive lands you in Aspen.

How expensive is it?
Denver's more expensive than Dallas, Houston, or Atlanta, nad less expensive than Minneapolis, Chicago, or Raleigh-Durham. Housing is marginally affordable given the area's median income, but as a whole, Denver's cost-of-living is only slightly above the national average.

Is it safe?
Denver is a clean and relatively safe city. The overall crime rate is slightly above the national average, but below many other large cities like Seattle and Minneapolis. Property crime(mostly auto theft) is higher than the national average while violent crime is below the national average.

How is the weather?
-Denver has a semi-arid climate. Spring is mild, sometimes snowy(historically, March is the snowiest month); Summer is warm and dry, with cool evenings, and an occassional evening thunderstorm; Autumn is mild and sunny; Winters are cold, sunny, dry, with occassional large amounts of snow. Denver's low humidity and abundant sunshine remind me of Los Angeles with a snow season.

Additional thoughts?
Denver's at or near the top of nearly everyone's list as a "Best Place." It truly is a great place to live, which like all large cities has its pro's and cons, but which on balance makes up for its shortcomings with a wonderful quality of life.
