Bakersfield is a changing city. In the past few years Bakersfield has gone from a friendly, affordably city to cold and overpriced. My favorite parts of the city are Northeast and Northwest Bakersfield. I find the people there the most friendly and helpful. I do not care for the Southwest. There are too many people who have moved here from out of area and they just haven't adopted the old Bakersfield "feel." Mush of Bakersfield is safe, but there are areas you definitely want to avoid. The weather is hot in the summer, but thw winter is nice. I can usually get away with jeans and a sweatshirt all winter long.
