What do you like about San Diego?
I love the dramatic differences in neighborhoods. From downtown to la jolla, from la mesa to pb, from bonita to hillcrest -- it's all dramatically and regionally different. There's a splinter of every culture, sub-culture, and counter culture here. It's not 100% "Navy retirement" as most like to argue. There's a nice electic mix in this little corner of the United States.
What do you dislike about San Diego?
I wish there was more to see in San Diego. Hillcrest and downtown are only teasers to my inner urban appetites. Even though San Diego has everything from suburban to city, to beach to urban, to gay town to farmer/ranch and rural areas -- I'm craving more. It's such a pity that San Diego is so small.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in?
I love Sunset Cliffs, Hillcrest, Downtown, PB, University/El Cajon BLVD, Coronado, and any of the beaches during late night.
How expensive is it?
Extremely. San Diego is almost completely, if not already finished with development. Therefore, most of the rent fees are for aesthetic quality. Ranging from 800 to the high thousands in rent, living in San Diego is worth it if you consider all of the benefits of living in a place where you can walk outside and actually have something to do.
Is it safe?
"Safe" is a bold statement. Wherever people inhabit, you are never safe. However for whatever this is worth, I'm 19 and I've never been raped, cajolled, or burglarized in San Diego though I've heard of stories pertaining to others.
How is the weather?
I don't know why I didn't make the weather the thing I liked the most about San Diego. The weather is to die for. I don't think the sun and breeze are as ethereal anywhere else in the whole world.
Additional thoughts?
People either love or hate San Diego. I love it and I cannot live anywhere else. I went to Hawaii and felt like I wasted my money. That's how much I love home.
