What do you like about Phoenix? Easy to navigate, close to fun travel destinations, and gorgeous sunsets/sunrises.
What do you dislike about Phoenix? Too many things that tell me, I won't stay. I don't like to complain cuz then you hear the "well then leave" so with that said, I am going to leave for the following reasons: not pedestrian friendly city, too many chain restaurants and coffee shops, the coffee shops are way too bright and modern and are only open until 3 PM, it is way too dry, everyone is from somewhere else, so the city lacks character, few know their neighbors (big wall around everything), the seasons are non-existant (you forget what time of year it is, for better or worse), It is one hour drive to see a friend in the other side of the valley, riduculously hot summer, not enought lovely rain (it is the desert after all) and it is a white-knuckle drive everywhere. I could go on, but I won't.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? I like the Arcadia area of Phoenix, cute wine bars, more neighborhoody feel and greener. I also like the DC ranch area of Scottsdale, it is pretty desert up there and the mall area is more unique. Great shops.
How expensive is it? Varies widely on where you live in the valley. Overall, still a great buy to live here.
Is it safe? The area is pocketed with good and bad.
How is the weather? Depends on what you like. It is very bright (bothers my eyes), very dry (bothers my eyes) and very hot in the summer. In fact, the sun is hot year round, so it can be a nice day, but if the sun is on you, it can be uncomforable anytime.
Additional thoughts? Be careful about simple moving away because you are sick of inclement weather, weather isn't everything. This is a great place to vacation and I would love to return to that feeling again. But, I would rather have the crummy weather of an eclectic, fun, pedestrain friendly city than this. Don't forget to look at everything, not just one thing.

What do you like about Phoenix? I Love how God's Architecture of our mountains and the magnificent colors in the sky at sunset. I really appreciate the canals. they are quiet and cooler to ride your bike almost everywhere in phoenix. Phoenix is the only city in america I know where you can feel your in the desert yet be in the middle of Phoenix.
What do you dislike about Phoenix? The consequences of poorly managed growth. The heat island effect and pollution have hurt the public health here. I grew up here and it was never hot 24/7 in the summer, now it is. It's harder to breath here. Our health and safety are at risk. we just need to focus on what's right.
What are your favorite parts of the city to live and/or hang out in? I live in Arcadia and i like it here and the biltmore. Tempe and downtown phoenix are fun. There are so many cool places and things to do now. arizona in general is an outdoor wonderland. the city is filled with swanky places and creative and talented people. this isn't small phoenix anymore its definately big Phoenix.
How expensive is it? It's relatively safe. Unfortuately Phoenix become a place of extreme's. You are either rich or poor. the middle class disappeared. they probably live on the outside now. illegal immigration is probably a large source of the crime here from my experience. it's an issue we all need to resolve and stop fighting over.
Is it safe? yes.
How is the weather? Phoenix is a place of extremes. it could be cold or hot in the same day. it's gotten colder here for some strange reason (global warming). July is not a great month, i usually travel.
Additional thoughts?
i think most people's comments are correct. it really depends on your perspective. i came her e as a boy from back east. i lived in the Bronx, NY and Lakewood, NJ. Phoenix gave me a chance to live and saved me. i was reborn here so i love Phoenix.
