Freiburg is a beautiful university town with a pleasant atmosphere. The people are generally reserved and may not seem particularly friendly, but are kind and helpful when asked and quite warm and generous once they get to know you.

It's one of the sunniest cities in Germany (claims to be the sunniest, but recent statistics dispute this), its location at the feet of the Black Forest makes it one of the more scenic cities in Germany, the Altstadt and various waterways lend it a cheerful charm, and the university ensures that it is a vibrant community with something for everyone.

There is a saying in Freiburg that, "The best thing about Freiburg is that everyone wants to come here and I already am," and most residents of the town honestly feel that way--for good reason.
